Rain stopped play…🙁 Nice weather for ducks, at least….
But undaunted, East Surrey press on to provide some entertainment and light relief amidst the diluvian conditions in Carshalton, at one of our favourite watering holes, The Hope. (Although, looking at the picture, clearly some people were still disappointed there would be no dancing…!)
“And why,” I was asked in the pub that evening, “Is it that everyone makes so much about St Patrick but does nothing for St George?”
“Well…” I offered tentatively, “It may be not so much a sign of the veneration proffered the respective beatified personages as to slick marketing by Guinness…” Although I had hoped a more low-brow refutation was available in the form of the plastic, St George’s bowler hat I was wearing.
Either way, East Surrey Morris Men are proud to play their part in honouring the Saint who is coming more and more to represent not England’s war interests but her identity in a multi-cultural world.
And what better way than a bit of traditional, Cotsold Morris dancing…?

ESMM wowed audiences at the Fox, Caterham, then the Harrow, Caterham finishing at the Hare and Hounds, Godstone. Crowds came out on a beautiful, if windy at times afternoon, to watch a varied selection of traditional entertainment; Morris dancing followed by a Mummers Play.
Here are a few photos from the day. There are more in the 2015 Gallery.
Come along and join us with song in your heart. We will be carol singing on the 22nd December for a worthwhile cause namely Canine Partners. To quote from the website;
“Our canine partners provide practical day to day assistance with tasks that may be difficult, painful or impossible to perform. They also provide that special companionship, unconditional love and affection which is so unique to dogs”.
Please see link for more information;

We would love to see you. Bring your friends have fun and support a good cause at the same time.
Come on down to Carshalton Frost Fair on Saturday 5th December. Lots to see and do at this seasonal jamboree. Stalls full of great Christmas ideas, food and of course ESMM at 2.40pm.
What could be better?
See you there!
ESMM are delighted to announce that we are going to host a meeting of the Morris Ring next year, to mark our 90th Anniversary as a side, over the weekend of the 16th July 2016.
Keep the weekend free! More details to follow.
We will have a separate webpage for the event.
A most memorable day out dancing with our friends from Ravensbourne MM, Thaxted MM and visiting from Australia. Adelaide MM. The day was superbly hosted by Westminster MM,
Here are some photos from the day with additional ones in the 2015 Gallery.
We will be at the Westminster Arms in Storey’s Gate (London SW1P 3AT) at lunchtime, at 12.00 for beer and food, aiming to dance at 1.00 there and then move on.
The pub is near the Houses of Parliament, there’s a link to the location in upcoming events.
The other sites will be at are:
Duke of York Steps off Pall Mall
Glasshouse Street followed by beer in one of the pubs in the street
Gerrard Street
Adelaide Street followed by beer in the Harp
Stroll down to the Jugged Hare near Victoria Station, dance there and then off for some dinner.
Your guess is as good as mine (at time of posting), as to exactly when we’ll be turning up at the sites after the Westminster Arms as there isn’t a timetable. It depends on how hot it is, and therefore how much dancing we’ll want to do before going to the next pub.
Hope to see you there.
